Pooja Pittie is a self-taught visual artist who lives and works in Chicago.
Raised in Mumbai, India, Pittie trained as an accountant and moved to the U.S. in 1999. While pursuing an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago and an entrepreneurial career, she began to develop a self-directed painting practice, and in 2016, shifted her focus to making art full-time. Since then, Pittie has completed the HATCH residency at Chicago Artists' Coalition, the Center Program at Hyde Park Art Center, and the 3Arts Bodies of Work Fellowship at University of Illinois.
Warm-up + Project
Life shifting events prompted a change in Pooja Pittie’s career path. Pittie started out her journey as an emerging artist creating painting that were more tight and constricted. As she moved along and her physical condition progressed she loosened up in her freedom of creating her art.
You are free to choose any one of Pittie’s styles or bodies of work that inspire you. For example, her early works were created with layered underpaintings and completed by covering the painting with dots. Or you may want to jump in with loose big brush strokes similar to her later paintings.
During the first part of class, take some time to experiment and then settle on your direction for your completed work.
