Warm-up:

Let's loosen up during warm-up time using shapes, color, and spontaneous movement.

Gather materials that invite a freedom in application and do not feel restricted.

  • oil pastels

  • soft pastels

  • paint

Make sure you have several pieces of paper or other substrates to use for this warm-up.

We are going to channel a stream of consciousness in the warm-up. Do not worry about the "right" way to make marks and shapes, and the use of color. Play with freedom in application and movement.

Project:

The final project may be a continuation of the warm-up, or you may start a new exploration.

Please keep in mind Gillian Ayres' intention, not for her audience to understand her work, but to feel JOY when viewing her creations.

As you view Ayres' work consider both her early works of thick impasto painting technique and the later pieces that are more simplified in shapes and limited color palette.
