The Paris-based, Belgian-born artist uses geometry as a base language to construct lively works, paying homage to classic subjects — still life, female nudes, the circus — explored by masters such as Picasso and Matisse. Using just a few shapes per work — a circle, triangle, line, or maybe the curve of a crescent moon — she is able to create intricate scenes.
Warm-up + Project
Atassi's nod to Picasso and Matisse is evident in her paintings.
Her style observed in the aforementioned includes, abstract interpretation, flat application of shapes, design, and color. Sometimes I am seeing a Picasso woman laying on a Matisse landscape.
I have included two links for your reference to Picasso and Matisse paintings.
So let's be inspired by, Picasso, Matisse, and Atassi it in our creativity this week! This should be fun.
As always all materials and ideas are encouraged, from cut paper to flat paint.
Looking forward to playing with these ideas.
