Emmanuelle Moureaux is a Tokyo based French architect and designer who is known for implementation of color throughout her designs. Emmanuelle fell in love with Shimura, an outskirt city of Tokyo, Japan, while doing research for her thesis and has lived there since 1996.

Warm-up

Take one shape, one image or one symbol and explore color, space and repetition in building a piece inspired by Emmanuelle Moureaux"s extraordinary work.

By drawing, painting, cutting, assembling, constructing, you might consider the following ideas:

  • shapes

  • numbers

  • letters

  • words

  • images

  • a paper doll cut-out 

  • an object

These suggestions are very open-ended to allow for exploration of your own ideas.

Project:

As you begin to develop the final project think about the possibilities of a more dimensional piece, 

We will take some time to have ideas flushed out and explore in conversation possible ways to execute your ideas.

This may be a project that we will want to extend into Week 2.
