This will be a 2-week project.

Warm-up + Project:

Emily Quandahl states, "My practice sits at the intersection of painting and textile".

She uses "deconstructed paintings" as her materials and the quilt grid as her pattern in her quilt paintings. In addition, she experiments with loose, free-poured paintings.

Below are two idea starters:

  1. Take old work or paintings you have saved and cut them up, reconstructing them, placing the pieces in a quilt-like pattern. Glue or stitch these pieces together. Build your painting square by square.

  2. Experiment with poured painting, allowing the random flow of colors and directions to inform your piece's direction.

In addition to old work, you may use as always:

  • Paints

  • Markers

  • Colored Pencils

  • Fabrics

  • Threads

Download a quilt template to get started if you’d like.
