Living in Japan, a culture much older than
our own, developed within me a love for the
aged and worn surface. The Japanese aesthetic
has been a major influence on my work.
This work embodies the concept of seeing beauty
in life’s detritus. Materials consisting of used bits
and pieces of everyday life, including wood,
leather, fiber and metal are often used in
the condition in which they are found.
My style of working is intuitive. Each piece takes
Its inspiration from the material with which I have
chosen to work.

Warm-up + Projects:
Wrapped Bundles
This week we will be creating small wrapped bundles inspired by the work and ideas of Diane Cooper. Please reference the definition above as she refers to detritus in her artist statement. Please gather your materials before class. You may consider any materials for your wrapped bundles.
old papers
pieces of cloth or old clothing
discarded items in a junk drawer
old artwork
unused or used art materials
items from nature
The ideas are endless.
You will need some kind of adhesive or some kind of string or strips of material, paper, etc. to wrap your items.
This is an extremely open-ended project.
The warm-up time will be used to begin playing with our gathered materials, bundling and assembling and trying various solutions.
