Anna Kunz is a Chicago-based artist whose work encompasses painting, sculpture and installation. Grounded in a rigorous generative process, Kunz collapses hierarchies between media and sensory experiences, often using painted and dyed fabrics that function like nets to capture and manipulate light and color to create immersive environments. Her work is a testament to the continued possibilities for painting to create a space of contemplation, unification, and joy.

Warm-up + project:

We will begin by creating some small works using color, shapes, and movement.

Below are two small Kunz demos on linen.

Kunz begins with a limited palette and works on a number of paintings at the same time, achieving her goal of some cohesiveness and interaction between her paintings.

Let's begin small. If you have fabric, tracing paper, or watercolor paper, that would be a nice option to experiment with colors layering lightly over each other.

It's your decision on what materials and surfaces you want to work with for the warm-up and the project.
_

Her paintings are playful and joyful. Let's keep that in mind!
